Police: At least 10 card skimmers found in Abilene recently

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – At least 10 card skimmers have been found in Abilene recently, so police are reminding consumers to take extra precautions to stay safe.

Abilene police warned the public on social media Thursday that, “approximately 10 card skimmers have been found right here in Abilene. Don’t let scammers get the upper hand!”

These skimmers have been found at grocery and convenience store registers, as well as at gas pumps.

Police say consumers should do the following to stay safe:

  • Use tap-to-pay whenever you can
  • Watch your accounts closely for suspicious charges
  • If something looks off, speak up!

Detectives currently have a fraud investigation underway into the skimmers. It’s unknown at this time if they are related to each other.
