“Kids can’t protect themselves from what they don’t know. Heat illness is preventable, and with this simple education, we can save lives,” Rubio said during the presentation of her vision at a Sacramento City Unified School District board meeting.
Her petition has gained the attention of health and education leaders, including Dr. Lisa Patel with Stanford Medicine.
Rubio is in the process of developing a petition video and a song for young students to help them remember heat illness symptoms.
Her petition is a part of her Girl Scout Silver Award project, the highest honor a Girl Scout Cadette can achieve.
