STATESVILLE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A man accused of stealing more than $1,000 worth of merchandise from a Statesville grocery store has been arrested, authorities announced.

The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office reported that a theft occurred on Saturday, September 20, at a grocery store located on Turnersburg Highway.

Deputies said Michael David Peek, 41, of Boone, walked out of the store without paying.

Just a few days later, on Tuesday, September 23, Peek reportedly returned to the same store. Employees recognized him and tried to stop him, but he took off in a silver car. Investigators later identified him using store surveillance video.

Detectives also discovered that Peek was involved in a similar theft in Davie County. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was later found and arrested by the Davie County Sheriff’s Office. He is currently being held at the Davie County Detention Center on a $2,500 bond.
