IMPD officers shoot wanted suspect on Indy’s east side

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis police are investigating after officers shot and injured a suspect while trying to take him into custody.

Indianapolis Metro police officers were called around 5:50 p.m. Thursday to the 900 block of Grant Avenue for an active investigation into a wanted male. This is a residential area near the intersection of 10th Street and Sherman Drive.

IMPD said officers arrived and found evidence that the male was on scene. They then reportedly gave “loud verbal commands” for the suspect to “peacefully surrender.” However, police said the suspect did not comply with officers.

At some point during the investigation, at least one IMPD officer fired shots at the wanted suspect – striking him at least once. The suspect was then taken to a local hospital in serious condition.

IMPD said no officers were injured. No details were provided on what led up to officers firing shots, nor whether he was armed and shot at officers. Police did say all relevant people are accounted for and that there is no outstanding threat to the public.

No other information was immediately provided by IMPD officials. This article will be updated once more information is released.
