The Minnesota Cold Weather Rule went into effect on Wednesday (Oct. 1) until April 30.
The goal of the rule is to prevent people from having their primary heat source disconnected. If someone gets a notice, they should call their utility immediately to create a payment plan.
Some customers, depending on income, can have payment plans that do not exceed 10 percent of the household’s income.
You can learn more about the cold weather rule HERE. The state’s Energy Assistance Program helps income-eligible households pay energy bills, repair or replace heating equipment or help make home more energy efficient.
Xcel Energy has more information about their program related to payment plans HERE.
