Baton Rouge man accused of child rape faces new charges in another case
According to an arrest warrant, Anthony Jelks Jr., 25, faces charges of computer-aided solicitation of a minor and indecent behavior with juveniles in connection with a November 2022 incident.
The mother of the victim reported to police that a man messaged her 9-year-old daughter asking for “twerk” videos and requested to follow the child on Instagram. Jelks allegedly sent the girl messages, which were shown to her mother.
Detectives received screenshots of the messages. Jelks was confirmed as the person who used the Instagram account after search warrants were obtained for the social media account and an Apple iCloud email.
Jail records show Jelks remains in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the new charges. He was initially booked on Sept. 8 in connection with a child rape.
Attorney General Liz Murrill released a statement after his initial arrest, vowing to seek justice for the victim. On Wednesday, Murrill announced she joined a coalition with other attorneys general who support overturning a U.S. Supreme Court decision that keeps the death penalty from being imposed for child rapists.
“As I’ve stated many times before, child rapists deserve the death penalty. The United States Supreme Court needs to reverse this egregiously wrong ruling,” Murrill said.
