American Red Cross giving exclusive Snoopy pin to platelet donors for one day only

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Snoopy lovers, here’s your chance to get an exclusive item. This Thursday, Oct. 2, platelet donors at Red Cross donation centers in Salt Lake, Lehi, and Layton will receive a limited-edition Snoopy pin.

The Red Cross x PEANUTS® t-shirt went viral on social media a few years ago, and they’ve brought back the promotion to encourage platelet donations: this time as a limited-edition sweatshirt and enamel pin. Platelet donors can get the sweatshirt through Oct. 5, and the pin is only available on Thursday.

Donating platelets is different from a regular blood donation. According to a press release from the American Red Cross of Utah, platelets have a short shelf life of five to seven days. The process of platelet donation involves “separating platelets from the blood and returning the remaining components to the donor.”

The process takes roughly two hours, and donors are invited to relax, watch a movie, or read a book during that time. First-time platelet donors who donate by Nov. 30 will also receive a $40 e-gift card.

“This one-day Snoopy pin giveaway is a fun way to thank our dedicated platelet donors, who are essential to helping patients battling cancer and other serious diseases,” Benjamin Donner, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Central and Southern Utah Chapter, is quoted in a press release. “We invite Utahns to continue building their PEANUTS collection while performing a truly lifesaving act.”

Schedule an appointment by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting redcross.org/GiveBlood, or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767). Use sponsor codes “SaltLakeCityUT,” “LaytonUT,” or “LehiUT” to make an appointment online.

The Salt Lake and Lehi donation centers will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and the Layton donation center will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to make it easier for donors to collect the Snoopy pin.
