American Fork man accused of sending sexual images to minors, caught by undercover officer

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

AMERICAN FORK, Utah (ABC4) — An American Fork man was arrested and charged after allegedly sending sexually explicit photos to minors on Discord. One of the minors was an undercover officer, leading to the man’s arrest.

Tyler James Brountas, 36, has been charged with enticing a minor and five counts of distributing material harmful to minors.

According to court documents, on June 18, 2025, an officer with the Orem Police Department was undercover on an online chat platform. A user on the platform began chatting with the undercover officer, saying that he was a 36-year-old from American Fork. The officer responded, pretending to be a 13-year-old girl from Orem.

The user gave the undercover officer his Discord account, and the conversation moved to that messaging app. Shortly after moving apps, the user sent two explicit photos of himself. He also made sexual comments toward the undercover officer, whom he believed to be a 13-year-old girl.

After this exchange, the police sent a warrant to Discord to obtain information about the user’s account. Information about the user’s location and contact was sent back, as well as content from another chat the user had on Discord.

In those messages, the user was speaking with a girl who said she was 15 years old. The user had allegedly sent explicit photos and videos of himself to the underage teenager.

Another warrant revealed that the online accounts belonged to Brountas, court documents say. On Sept. 25, police responded to his residence to serve a search warrant and interviewed Brountas.

During the interview, Brountas allegedly admitted to using the chat website to talk with women, and claimed that he did not believe the minors he spoke with online were “actually underage.” Brountas told police that he had sent explicit images to “people claiming to be underage” in the past.

Brountas was arrested and booked into the Utah County Jail, where he is being held without bail.
