79-year-old woman dies after being struck by vehicle outside Cleveland County Fairgrounds
SHELBY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A 79-year-old died after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday afternoon near the Cleveland County Fairgrounds. 

Shelby Police said officers responded at 2:50 p.m. to the 1700 block of East Marion Street while the fair was open to the public. They determined that a vehicle traveling west on East Marion Street allegedly struck a female crossing the road. 

The victim was treated at the scene by local emergency personnel before being transported to Atrium Health-Cleveland. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. 

One of the fair’s entrances was temporarily closed during the investigation, and the fair remains open on Wednesday evening.

The woman’s name is not being disclosed at this time. 

“The thoughts and prayers of the Shelby Police Department are with her family,” Shelby Police Chief Brad Faser said. 

No charges have been announced. The incident remains under investigation.
