PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man has been accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, manslaughter and other charges after a crash in Marion County earlier this week.

The crash involved one vehicle and left one person dead and two others injured on Monday.

A black Ford Ranger pickup had rolled and was heavily damaged near the 7200 block of St. Louis Road NE outside Gervais, authorities said.

“Three passengers were injured in the crash. One passenger, Juan Garibo, 27, of Salem, was transported by Life Flight but later died at Salem Hospital. Another victim sustained a broken neck, and a third required stitches for a leg injury,” the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

The driver was identified as 33-year-old Wilfrido Giron-Cortes Jr., of Woodburn, who is now accused of drinking alcohol before the crash.

“His blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit. Deputies also located multiple open containers of alcohol inside the vehicle,” the sheriff’s office said.

Giron-Cortes was arrested on Thursday, lodged in the Marion County Jail, and faces charges that include first-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault, fourth-degree assault, DUII, reckless endangering and reckless driving.

He is scheduled to make a court appearance in a Marion County court on Friday.
