SALT LAKE CITY (
ABC4) — Utah’s Hogle Zoo has received a perfect score and accreditation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
The Hogle Zoo shared that after a diligent accreditation process, they became the 10th zoo to receive a rare perfect score. The score indicates that there were no lesser or major concerns throughout the zoo.
“Utah’s Hogle Zoo just did what only a handful of zoos or aquariums have ever done,” said Dan Ashe, president and CEO of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. “Not only did they, once again, achieve AZA accreditation, the global gold standard for modern aquariums and zoos, they did so without even a single item of concern – a perfectly clean inspection report. This is a rare occurrence and reflects Hogle Zoo’s dedication to excellence.”
Organized facilities, innovative safety systems, highly effective security programs, comprehensive radio and camera capabilities, and the staff’s collaborative spirit were noted by the visiting committee, according to the Hogle Zoo.
Additionally, the Hogle Zoo said, the Aline W. Skaggs Wild Utah habitat was recognized for its modern zoological practices and forward-thinking interpretive focus on local wildlife.
“I am immensely proud of the team’s dedication and accomplishments at Hogle Zoo, including a daily commitment to meet and exceed AZA’s high standards. We are embracing a “one zoo” mindset, where we understand our priorities, support one another, and work extremely hard.,” said Doug Lund, CEO of Hogle Zoo.
AZA accreditation
The Hogle Zoo said that fewer than 10% of the 2,800 animal exhibitors licensed by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) are AZA-accredited. The Hogle Zoo has received consecutive AZA accreditation since 1979.
“At Hogle Zoo, we’re more than just a fun place to experience. Our team and the community can take pride in knowing their support helps us create champions for wildlife. Through our team’s dedication to professional excellence, we’re making a lasting impact on the animals under our care, the guests we inspire, and wildlife conservation efforts around the world,” said Liz Larsen, chief mission officer of Hogle Zoo.
