BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — September 30, 2025

Police said Monday they have no suspects and have made no arrests in the shooting death of a 29-year-old Bloomington man Friday night, but the investigation remains ongoing.

The Bloomington Police Department is asking anyone with information about the case to come forward.

On Sunday, Monroe County Coroner Jeff Hall identified the victim as Shawn Allen Sullivan, 29, of Bloomington. Hall said the cause and manner of death are pending autopsy and toxicology results.

Police said officers were called around 9:40 p.m. Sept. 26 to the intersection of West Howe Street and South Morton Street after a caller reported hearing people screaming followed by what they believed was a gunshot. The caller also reported seeing someone on the ground.

Responding officers found Sullivan with an apparent gunshot wound to the left side of his upper torso. They began life-saving efforts until Bloomington Fire Department and IU Health Ambulance personnel arrived. Sullivan was taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:28 p.m.

Investigators believe Sullivan was involved in a disturbance with the driver of a passenger car. During the altercation, the shooter allegedly exited the vehicle, fired a single shot, and then fled in a dark-colored sedan. Witnesses said the car sped westbound on Howe Street before turning north onto Madison Street, and that a woman could be heard screaming inside the suspect vehicle as it left. Police do not believe the shooter and Sullivan knew each other.

Residents in the area are asked to review any available security or doorbell camera footage that may have captured the vehicle. Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Chris Scott at (812) 339-4477.

Meanwhile, Sullivan’s sister, Shannon Sullivan, has launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover burial or cremation costs. As of Monday, the fundraiser had raised more than $3,000 from 57 donors.

“I came here with a very heavy and broken heart in hopes and prayers that I am able to raise enough money to at least be able to get my brother cremated or have a funeral for him so he can be laid to rest,” she wrote. “Shawn was such a big-hearted man and he did not deserve what happened to him.”
