Officials said a shooting involving an officer broke out at around 5:50 p.m. in the 6600 block of Greenland St.
As of 9 p.m., there was still a heavy police presence at the scene of the incident.
Officials said the Independent Investigations Division (IID) from the Maryland Attorney General’s Office in Baltimore was headed to the scene.
Details remain limited, but officials said the Cheverly Police Department was first to the scene. The Prince George’s County Police Department then took over the shooting investigation before it was assumed by the IID.
One neighbor told DC News Now that they heard eight or nine gunshots and that a man was shot and killed.
The victim’s family member told DC News Now that officers shot and killed him outside his home on the driveway. The victim’s 28-year-old younger sister said that he was 45 years old and was one of nine siblings. He had two daughters and was a Metrobus driver.
Police did not say what led up to the shooting.
