National Ability Center in Park City offers inclusive recreation activities for all

PARK CITY, Utah (ABC4) – For 40 years, the National Ability Center has been making the impossible, possible. Each day, people who face challenges and disabilities get the chance to adventure just like everyone else.

Nestled in the beauty of Park City, the National Ability Center’s 26-acre campus holds the keys to inclusivity and accessibility.

Tracy Meier has worked at the NAC for over 20 years, and she put it pretty simply, “I always like to say there is really no excuse.  We have the people, we have the facilities, and we have the equipment to make it possible.”

Meier uses her experience with adaptive recreation to make 21 different programs possible.

Meier continued, “Everything is accessible, so we can take anyone up on this course, any one down the hill, down the river.”

The ropes course, adaptive bikes, the climbing wall, horse riding and archery you can see when visiting the NAC campus is just a small sample of what anyone can do with the National Ability Center. An experience with the National Ability Center is more than just the opportunity and facilities, but the empowerment they provide.

NAC’s CEO Willie Ford explained, “Every single day on this campus we see impossible happen where our participants and families have significant challenges, but they show up with a smile on their face and do things they never thought were possible.”

Working with Tracy and the rest of the NAC team, Ford is bringing recreation and adventure to people with disabilities: a group they know need the opportunity with no questions asked.

Ford said, “If there is a need, we will find a way to support it.”

The NAC has provided over 6 million dollars in scholarships.  If someone needs help to recreate, the NAC will make it happen.

Ford continued, “Come here and we will get you started, and we are confident that you will love it.”

The work the National Ability Center does each day would not be possible without their volunteers.  They estimate over one thousand volunteers have helped to make over 32,000 experiences possible.  You can learn more about the National Ability Center on their website here.
