Monroe police officer accused of sexually assaulting ex-wife, placed on administrative leave

UPDATE (10/01/2025): Ouachita Parish officials have released additional information about the arrest of an officer of the Monroe Police Department, who was charged with Third-Degree Rape.

On May 12, 2025, Chad Prather’s ex-wife contacted the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office in reference to an incident that occurred on March 29, 2025. According to court documents, Prather engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim without her consent.

After the complaint was made, investigators reportedly contacted Prather regarding the incident, and no arrest was made. On September 26, 2025, Prather was indicted by a grand jury and arrested.

According to officials, Prather has been employed by the Monroe Police Department since 2021. On September 30, 2025, Prather was released from custody after posting a $45,000 bond.


MONROE, La. (KTVE/KARD) – A Monroe Police Department officer has been arrested and charged with third-degree rape, according to booking records from the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Chad Austin Prather, 41, of West Monroe, was booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center on September 26, 2025, following the issuance of a true warrant for his arrest. He is being held on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in the 4th Judicial District Court on September 29, 2025.

The Monroe Police Department confirmed that Prather has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of both criminal and internal investigations. In a public statement, the department emphasized its commitment to transparency and accountability:

“We are aware of a serious domestic incident involving a Monroe Police officer in Ouachita Parish. Officer Chad Prather has been arrested by the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office. We are also aware of the seriousness of the charges and are providing our full support to the OPSO as they continue with their investigation. Officer Prather has been placed on Administrative Leave, and an administrative investigation is underway. MPD wants to remind the public that our officers will always be held accountable for their actions while on and off-duty, and conduct that is immoral, unethical, or illegal will not be tolerated.”
