Long Branch Kicks Off Construction on $30M Health and Recreation Complex

Construction crews broke ground on Long Branch’s new health and recreation hub on Sept. 19. The $30 million site at Bath and Third Avenues will mix medical care, tech spaces, books, and green areas across four acres.

Two buildings will anchor the site, with parks and outdoor spots ready for use in 2026. The gift of land and structures came from RWJBarnabas Health and Monmouth Medical Center back in 2021.

“This center represents a major step forward in creating inclusive, innovative spaces where health, education, and community thrive together,” said Mayor John Pallone, according to The Link News.

The main three-floor structure puts fitness first. Down below, gym-goers will find workout machines and class spaces. The street level teaches smart food choices with cooking demos. Upstairs, doctors and staff will meet with patients.

Hidden gems from an old mansion still shine in the lower level. A restored sitting room shows off custom woodwork next to a stone hearth. Train buffs will love the Railroad Museum’s tiny locomotives and New York and Long Branch Railroad items.

Next door, a tech-smart library branch opens doors to the future. Visitors can tap into computers, work areas, and even record podcasts. The space aims to knock down tech and language walls for locals.

Fresh air fun fills the grounds. Players can hit the pickleball courts while kids climb on new play sets. Paths wind past exercise stops, and shows will light up the outdoor stage. When hunger strikes, a small shop will be available to serve quick bites.

Old meets new in the building’s look. A wraparound porch, wide steps, and a watch tower tip their hat to past days.

As shovels hit dirt in phase one, city officials promise updates until the doors open in late 2026.
