Mitchell suffered the injury during the third quarter of the game. The Indiana Fever’s medical staff had to assist her to the locker room after she sustained the injury.
The exact injury Mitchell has is currently unconfirmed. The Fever’s public relations team quickly ruled her out for the remainder of Game 5 of the WNBA Semifinals.
Mitchell scored 15 points before she exited the game. Indiana ultimately could not overcome her injury, however, as they fell to the Aces, 107-98.
With the win, the Aces advanced to the WNBA Finals, where they will take on the Phoenix Mercury. Game 1 of the Finals will begin at 8 p.m. Friday.
Mitchell’s premature exit in Game 5 punctuated what has been an injury-riddled season for the Fever.
Point guard Caitlin Clark played just 13 games for Indiana in 2025. She dealt with a groin injury for much of the season, but when she was able to play, she averaged 16.5 points, five rebounds, 8.8 assists and 1.6 steals a game.
The Fever also lost a pivotal contributor when Sophie Cunningham went down with a season-ending knee injury in August. Cunningham was putting up 8.6 points and 3.5 rebounds per game before she got hurt.
Indiana’s backcourt depth took a significant hit in August, when guards Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald both suffered season-ending injuries.
The Fever will now enter the offseason and aim to get healthy. Indiana will also need to try to re-sign some of the key players from this year’s team, including Mitchell and Cunningham, both of whom will be free agents the offseason.
Indiana’s players and coaches will conduct exit interviews with reporters at a later date to recount their 2025 campaign.
