Three juveniles arrested in Rapides Parish school threat investigations

ALEXANDRIA, La. (WNTZ) – Three more juveniles have been arrested in connection with a series of social media threats targeting multiple Rapides Parish high schools, authorities announced.

Sheriff’s detectives confirmed Monday evening that a juvenile suspect was taken into custody and booked into the Renaissance Home for Youth on a charge of terrorizing related to threats made against Peabody Magnet High School and Alexandria Senior High School earlier in the day. Investigators later determined that the threat was non-credible, but said the investigation remains active and more arrests are possible.

Following the early evening arrest, investigators were alerted of school officials in receipt of a threat targeting Peabody Magnet High School on Monday, 5:45 p.m. As the investigation unfolded, detectives received additional reports of a separate threat directed toward Tioga High School.

The Sheriff’s Cyber Crime Unit continued working into the night and identified two suspects just after 11 p.m. Deputies arrested the juveniles and booked them into the Renaissance Home for Youth on terrorizing charges.

“I would like to commend our detectives, Juvenile and Cyber Crime Unit, for their diligence in this investigation,” Sheriff Mark Wood said in a statement. “I also want to thank the Rapides Parish School Board, Superintendent Powell and their team, as well as Alexandria Police, Pineville Police, Louisiana College Police, and Louisiana State Police for their assistance. Most of all, I want to thank the parents for their patience and understanding during this very scary and difficult time. We will continue to do everything in our power to safeguard our children’s safety — but as a society, we cannot live in fear.”

Authorities emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing.
