Officials believe the teenager was riding his bike in the road when he was hit by a car on Angus Street and Olive Avenue.
Ezekiel Mendibil and Samier Latimore both live in the area and described the moment they found out about the crash from their friends.
“We were just playing basketball. They came to my house, and they told me that a kid had got ran over. So, like, I didn’t know what happened. And so, we came over here, and this is when you see the crime scene,” said Latimore.
“My mom, I came home and was like, ‘Oh, check on your friend. Call him, make sure like he didn’t get hurt,'” Mendibil explained. “It’s just sad.”
Lt. Zeb Price says Fresno Police received calls at around 6 p.m. claiming a car hit someone riding a bike.
“When officers arrived here, they found an unresponsive Hispanic male, juvenile in the roadway,” he said.
The 15-year-old was taken to the hospital, where he later passed away.
“For bicyclists, pedestrians, you know, motorists, you know, try to pay as close attention as you can, especially as the sun starts to set,” Lt. Price explained.
He says the driver stayed at the scene with officers.
“She’s being very cooperative,” Lt. Price said. “There’s no indication of any types of substance, DUI, or anything at this time.”
Anyone who may have seen anything is urged to call Fresno Police.
