According to officials, the suspect was taken into custody without incident during a joint operation with the Alexandria Police Department. The arrest stems from an incident around 9:05 a.m., when a vehicle entered the school’s parking lot at a high rate of speed. Investigators said the driver attempted to strike the deputy, prompting the officer to fire shots before the vehicle fled the scene.
No students or staff were injured, and the school was placed on lockdown as a precaution.
The investigation into the shooting is now being handled by the Central Louisiana Critical Incident Response Team, led by investigators with the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said more information will be released as the investigation continues.
