MSU Mankato planning new $60M sports complex
Plans are in the works to build a new $60 million stadium and complex at Minnesota State University Mankato.
It will include a new track and football field, as well as retail and student housing.
MSU President Edward Inch says the project will be completely funded by private donations and that they are already halfway to their goal thanks to support from major donors like Glen Taylor and Adam Thielen.
The hope is to host 115 events a year at the news complex, ranging from sporting events to concerts, and they have done the math.
“We envision this being used 115 times a year, that will bring up to 127,000 people into Mankato….as many as two-thirds of them will be coming from outside the region,” Inch said. “This will become a much bigger economic driver that equates to thousands of extra nights in hotel rooms and an increase of $11 million into the region’s tax base.”
The university plans to break ground in 2027 and have the complex open for the start of the 2029 school year.
