Louisiana AG issues statement supporting sending troops to Shreveport

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – After Governor Jeff Landry put in a formal request asking for troops to be sent to Louisiana, Louisiana Attorney General (AG) Liz Murrill bolsters the ask by publicly stating her full support for the deployment.

On Monday, Sept. 29, 2025, Gov. Landry announced a significant move he believes is necessary to help combat crime across the state, asking the Secretary of War and President Donald Trump to send up to 1,000 troops to Louisiana.

The following day, AG Liz Murrill took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to fortify the statement from the Governor.

“While we have made tremendous progress in fighting crime throughout Louisiana since I took office – there is still more work to be done. That’s why I fully support @LAGovJeffLandry’s official request for federal assistance to @SecWar Pete Hegseth and President @realDonaldTrump to deploy national guard troops to Shreveport, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans.”

The reason behind her support, wrapped up in one sentence.

“Just one life lost to violence is too much.”

When it comes to the National Guard marching the streets of Shreveport, residents of the city have been torn between thinking it would be the best approach for the city, and believing the idea is something they could never fathom being appropriate.

Shreveport Police Department says the details will need to be secured on how the process will work; however, they will never turn down additional resources to keep the city safe.
