Imelda intensifies, Humberto clings to hurricane strength as dual storms head toward Bermuda | Tracking the Tropics
Located about 735 miles west-southwest of Bermuda, Imelda is moving toward the northeast at 7 mph.
Maximum sustained winds are 80 mph.
Imelda is expected to move away from the Bahamas Tuesday and quickly approach Bermuda late on Wednesday. The move toward the northeast is expected, followed by a turn toward the east-northeast at a faster speed by that night.
Additional strengthening is expected during the next 48 hours, the NHC said.
A hurricane warning is in effect for Bermuda.
Humberto will bring dangerous surf and rip currents across Bermuda, the northern Caribbean, the Bahamas, and the U.S. East Coast throughout the week, the NHC said.
Located about 300 miles west of Bermuda, Humberto is moving toward the north-northwest near 18 mph.
Maximum sustained winds are near 80 mph.
Humberto is expected to move toward the north on Tuesday, followed by a much faster northeast or east-northeast motion on Wednesday and Thursday, the NHC said.
The center of Humberto is expected to pass west of, and then north of, Bermuda on Tuesday and Wednesday.
According to the NHC, continued weakening is expected, and Humberto should become a strong extratropical system on Wednesday.
