Governor Landry submits request to activate the Louisiana National Guard

BATON ROUGE, La. (KLFY) — Governor Jeff Landry has requested federal assistance to activate up to 1,000 Louisiana National Guard personnel to address public safety concerns across the state.

The request was submitted to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and aims to build on the success of previous National Guard deployments in Washington D.C. and Tennessee.

“Since taking office, we have made real progress in driving down crime across Louisiana — but the job is far from finished,” said Landry.

The Louisiana National Guard has supported events such as the Bayou Classic, Sugar Bowl and Mardi Gras. Past missions have included responses to Hurricane Ida in 2021, Hurricane Francine in 2024 and the Jan. 1 Terrorist Attack.

Landry emphasized the importance of federal partnerships and said that the mission is about saving lives and protecting families.
