KENTUCKY (FOX 56) — The funeral arrangements for the Campbellsville University senior who died while fishing Sept. 24 in Texas have been announced.

Peyton Hughes, 21, was at Toledo Bend Lake

near the border of Texas and Louisiana, preparing to compete in a kayak fishing tournament when he was last seen, according to authorities.

The Hughes family said that he died at the same age as his father, Jonathan Adam Hughes, who died while serving in Iraq.

“To lose them both at the same age feels beyond imaginable. Peyton was full of love, laughter, and dreams that were taken far too soon,” noted a GoFundMe that was set up for the family.

Hughes was a 2022 graduate of Washington County High School, where he played freshman football and four years of basketball, along with being a member of the fishing team, the obituary noted.

He will be laid to rest at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 6, at River of Life Community Church in Springfield, according to an obituary. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the service starts.

Hughes will be cremated and laid to rest alongside his father at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church Cemetery in Calvary.
