Former Charlotte school bus driver charged in child sex crimes investigation
Leetwain Darrell Tate, 48, also known as “Sharon” or “Ms. Sharon,” and who CMPD said identifies as a female, was taken into custody without incident on Tuesday morning.
After speaking with detectives, Tate was charged with two counts of statutory rape, one count of statutory sex offense, and six counts of indecent liberties with a minor.
Tate previously worked as a school bus driver at Sugar Creek Charter School but was suspended during the investigation and officially fired on Sept. 29, authorities confirmed.
According to CMPD, the reported incidents did not happen on school property or while Tate was working as a school bus driver. The victims range in age from 14 to 15 years old.
Tate is currently being held at the Mecklenburg County jail. A bond has not been set. Her first court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 1.
CMPD’s Crimes Against Children Unit believes there may be additional victims. Anyone with information or who may have been affected is urged to contact Detective King at 704-336-7495. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
