CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have arrested an area school bus driver in connection with a child sex crimes investigation involving young teenagers.

Leetwain Darrell Tate, 48, also known as “Sharon” or “Ms. Sharon,” and who CMPD said identifies as a female, was taken into custody without incident on Tuesday morning.

After speaking with detectives, Tate was charged with two counts of statutory rape, one count of statutory sex offense, and six counts of indecent liberties with a minor.

Tate previously worked as a school bus driver at Sugar Creek Charter School but was suspended during the investigation and officially fired on Sept. 29, authorities confirmed.

Tate is currently being held at the Mecklenburg County jail. A bond has not been set. Her first court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 1.
