Child injured in overnight shooting along Bishop Ford Freeway
According to Illinois State Police troopers, the incident unfolded along the northbound lanes of I-94, near Michigan Avenue.
Troopers said they learned of the incident after they were called to a hospital around 7 p.m. Monday, following a report that a 6-year-old boy had been shot.
Further investigation indicated that the child was struck by gunfire while he was sitting as a passenger in a vehicle as it made its way down I-94.
Troopers responded to the scene and canvassed the area around 9:15 p.m., but the roadway reopened by 11:35 p.m.
The mother of the victim has since identified him as 6-year-old Nolan Woods. She was behind the wheel, with Noana and a friend of hers in the passenger seats, at the time the gunfire erupted.
According to the child’s mother, he is currently in pain and not able to walk, but is expected to recover.
The victim’s mother said she and Nolan and a friend were in the car when the shots were fired.
Currently, it remains unclear what led to the gunfire and authorities say no arrests have been made.
