ALEXANDRIA, La. (WNTZ) – Authorities have arrested a man accused of trying to run over a school resource officer outside Peabody Montessori on Tuesday morning, prompting the deputy to fire his weapon as the suspect fled the scene.

According to the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 9:05 a.m. when a deputy assigned to the school observed a white vehicle speeding into the parking lot. As the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver allegedly tried to run him over, leading the deputy to discharge his weapon. No injuries were reported, and the vehicle left the scene immediately after the incident.

Investigators with the RPSO and Alexandria Police Department quickly identified the suspect as Brian Keith Laroche, 63, of Alexandria. Detectives obtained arrest warrants, and members of the Alexandria Police Special Response Team took Laroche into custody without incident at his residence on 14th Street around 11:45 a.m.

Laroche was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center on multiple charges, including:

• Attempted first-degree murder of a police officer
• Flight from an officer
• Reckless operation
• Contempt of court

Bond has not yet been set on the attempted murder and flight charges, both of which are felonies.

The investigation is ongoing, and the Central Louisiana Critical Incident Response Team, led by the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office, is handling the review of the deputy-involved shooting.

Authorities emphasized that all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
