MARION, Ind. — Four structures were damaged by a single fire in Marion on Monday.

According to the Marion Fire Department, the fire broke out near the intersection of 36th and Landess Streets. The fire had fully engulfed one structure by the time MFD crews made it to the scene. The roof of that structure ultimately ended up collapsing.

The fire that fully engulfed one structure also damaged three others before firefighters extinguished it. The other three buildings were damaged by both radiant heat produced by the initial fire and direct exposure to flames, according to MFD.

In the interest of public safety, officials with the City of Marion plan to tear down the structure the fire first broke out in. MFD reported that the structure being torn down has already been deemed a total loss.

In total, the fire caused about $75,000 in damage before it was put out, per MFD. Firefighters reported that they had the scene of the fire “controlled” within two hours of 911 dispatchers receiving calls about the blaze.

Fire investigations are still working to determine the exact cause of the blaze
