Westfield Police issued a statement saying school administration received the unverified threat just after 2 p.m. Monday. Out of an abundance of caution, the school was placed on lockdown while officers searched and cleared the building.
According to police and school officials, no reports of injuries or shots fired occurred.
“We understand this is concerning to students, parents, and staff,” Westfield PD said in a statement. “Please know that our officers are on scene and actively working to ensure the safety of everyone in the building.”
Around 3:30 p.m., Westfield Washington Schools confirmed that the lockdown had been lifted. In an update around 4:15 p.m., police said they believe the threat is not credible but that the investigation is ongoing.
“Everyone is safe, and the situation is under control,” they said. “We will share additional details as they become available.”

In an update around 5:30 p.m., the school district said that “an individual claiming to be inside a school restroom” was the one who threatened acts of violence.
“All students and staff are safe. At no point were students harmed,” they said. “We understand that the situation at the high school today felt chaotic and that rumors were spreading quickly.”
“The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority,” the statement continued. “Support will be available for students and staff who may need it. Thank you for your trust, patience, and support as we ensure Westfield High School remains a safe place for learning.”
No other information was immediately provided by police. FOX59/CBS4 crews on scene witnessed young people being handcuffed and confirmed that Indiana State Police was on scene.
