Led by Indivisible Charlotte and The Poor People’s Campaign, the demonstration began at 8:30 a.m. Monday, just ahead of the House Judiciary Subcommittee hearing chaired by Rep. Jim Jordan. Protesters said the event is using a recent tragedy, the murder of Iryna Zarutska on Charlotte’s Blue Line, for political purposes.
Organizers criticized national GOP leaders for turning Charlotte into a political stage instead of working to address the root causes of violence.
The hearing began at 10:00 a.m. inside the courthouse, while outside, protest signs and community voices called for unity and action, not division.
