ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The price of a gallon of gas has fallen 3.2 cents in the Rockford area over the last week, falling 25 cents lower than a month ago, according to Gas Buddy.

“Gas prices have seen a notable weekly drop in most states as seasonal factors ramp up their impact—namely the switch to cheaper winter gasoline and falling gasoline demand,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “Price cycling markets led the way with significant declines in Ohio, Florida, and Michigan, while Indiana experienced a price cycle that resulted in the largest weekly increase of any state last week. For now, seasonal factors will remain the primary driver of relief at the pump, though we continue to monitor the tropics for any potential disruptions to seasonal trends.”

According to the report, Gas Buddy surveyed 139 stations in Rockford and found the cheapest station priced at $2.84 on Sunday, and the most expensive at $3.49. The lowest price in Illinois on Sunday as $2.69.

The national average price of gasoline has fallen to $3.08, down 11 cents from a month ago.

Across the border, in Madison, the average price of gas was $2.84, while Milwaukee saw prices of $2.81.

Conversely, in Chicago, which applies Illinois’ Motor Fuel Tax, the average price was $3.58.
