Catawba County officer, EMT accused of obstructing child abuse case in Davidson County

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Brookford officer is facing charges after allegedly using her position to interfere in a child sexual abuse investigation in Davidson County.

Jennifer Aree Myers, 44, a sworn law enforcement officer with Brookford PD, has been charged with felony accessing government computers and obstruction of justice. Authorities said she used police databases to help tip off a suspect under investigation for child sexual abuse.

That suspect, Jeremy Lanning Amburn, 43, was the focus of a criminal investigation in Denton. Investigators allege that Myers, along with her husband, Benjamin Geoffrey Myers, a Davidson County EMT, accessed government systems to get information about the case and alert Amburn.

Officials said that alert allowed key evidence to be destroyed before investigators could secure it.

Both Jennifer and Benjamin Myers were arrested on September 26 and are now being held at the Davidson County Detention Center. Jennifer’s bond was set at $5,000, and Benjamin’s at $1,500. They are both due in court this December.

The Brookford Police Department has not yet issued a public statement regarding Jennifer Myers’ employment status or next steps. Brookford is a small town in Catawba County.

Investigators said that this case remains open, and more information may be released.
