18-year-old rescued at Lake Cumberland after falling over cliff

LAKE CUMBERLAND, Ky. (FOX 56) — Russell County rescue crews were called into action early Monday morning after an 18-year-old man fell over a cliff at Lake Cumberland State Resort Park.

Russell County Search and Rescue announced on Facebook that around 2 a.m., crews were called to an overlook area where the 18-year-old had fallen.

Officials said he was found conscious but combative by rescuers and emergency officials, partially submerged in water. The man was safely secured and taken by boat to an ambulance.

Due to the nature of his injuries, rescue crews said air transport was initially requested, but he had to be taken to Russell County Hospital by land due to helicopter landing problems.

The status of the 18-year-old is not known at this time.
