Wallace State’s Brookelyn Morgan named NJCAA Division II National Athlete of the Week

HANCEVILLE, Ala. — Wallace State freshman cross-country runner Brookelyn Morgan has earned national recognition, being named the NJCAA Division II USTFCCCA Female Athlete of the Week. She becomes the first runner in Wallace State program history to receive the honor.

Morgan has been the top NJCAA Division II athlete in all three of her races this season. Most recently, she led the Lions at the Firehawk Invitational in Moulton, Alabama, clocking 22:52.5 for an 11th-place overall finish on the 6K course at Oakville Indian Mounds Park.

Earlier this season, Morgan posted standout 5K performances with a 10th-place finish in 18:55.6 at the North Alabama Invitational and a 29th-place finish in 18:47.7 at the City Auto Memphis Twilight Classic.

Morgan said the recognition reflects the hard work of both her and her teammates.

“It’s an honor to be nationally recognized. My team and I have worked diligently to reach this point. I definitely could not have done any of this without strength from the Lord. This recognition sets the bar high for the rest of the season and will push us to keep striving to be the best we can be.”

Head coach Tony Crider praised Morgan not only for her results but also for her character.

“Brookelyn is so humble and sets such a good example every day. She comes to work every day with her hard hat on, a smile on her face.”

Morgan and the Lions will continue their season this weekend at the ON Twilight Run at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, looking to build on the momentum of her historic recognition.
