Two men, two teens charged after allegedly shooting into an occupied dwelling in east Charlotte: CMPD

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Two men and two 16-year-olds were charged after a shooting into an occupied dwelling, which later led to a crash after a hospital visit, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Just before 5 p.m. on Monday, September 15, officers responded to reports of a shooting into an occupied dwelling in the 7400 block of Grier Road in east Charlotte.

While investigating, officers heard that a silver Nissan Altima, consistent with the description of the suspect vehicle, dropped a juvenile off at a local hospital with a gunshot wound. According to police, the vehicle left the hospital and later crashed near the intersection of East W.T. Harris Blvd and Chancellor Park Drive.

At that scene, CMPD found three suspects, one of whom was throwing firearms into a nearby wooded area. One juvenile and two adults were taken to a local hospital for injuries from the crash.

During the investigation, detectives learned the Altima was reported as stolen, along with one of the five firearms that were found.

Officers arrested 18-year-old Luis Hernandez-Mendez and 22-year-old Ilan Nolasco-Rensendiz and charged them both with:

  • Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling
  • Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill or Inflict Serious Injury
  • Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill
  • Possession of a Stolen Firearm · Felony Conspiracy
  • Contributing to the Delinquency of Minors

Additionally, Nolasco-Rensendiz was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon. Arrest records show Hernandez-Mendez has since been released on a ,000 bond.

CMPD also arrested two 16-year-old juveniles and charged them as adults with shooting into an occupied dwelling, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, possession of a stolen firearm, felony conspiracy, and possession of a handgun by a minor.

One of the juveniles was also charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury and possession of a stolen vehicle.

A juvenile suspect was released from the hospital and taken into custody with the listed charges. The remaining suspects will be charged accordingly once they are released from the hospital.
