Pound of fentanyl seized by Louisville investigators in ‘major narcotics bust’

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (FOX 56) — Enough fentanyl to deliver a lethal dose to more than a third of Jefferson County’s entire population was seized along with other illegal drugs and two guns on Friday, according to officers with the Louisville Metro Police Department.

Department officials took to social media on Sunday, announcing that around 6 p.m. on Sept. 26, detectives with the 2nd Division Impact Unit carried out a search warrant at the 5000 block of Yew Lane.

“This operation removed a massive amount of poison from our community and significantly disrupted a dangerous drug network, improving the safety and quality of life for residents in the area,” LMPD officials wrote.

According to the post, law enforcement officials seized:

• Eight ounces of marijuana
• 5.26 ounces of “high-purity cocaine”
• Two guns
• One pound of fentanyl

Officers said such a high volume of fentanyl would be enough to kill over 225,000 people, roughly 36% of people living in Jefferson County.

Louisville police wrote that SWAT team members, K9 patrol units, and technical operations support staff all played a role in the ongoing drug investigation.

Officers did not announce any arrests in connection with Friday’s search on Yew Lane. More information will be released as it becomes available.
