They have started a petition to submit to the Shreveport Metropolitan Planning Commission and city officials, requesting that they stop the rezoning and prevent a 24-hour Murphy USA from being built in front of their neighborhood. They are concerned about increased traffic, potential environmental impacts, and the impact on their property values.
Charlotte Russell with the Highland Neighborhood Association said they oppose the rezoning for a gas station for many of the same reasons, with a primary concern being loitering. She said, “Our experience in Highland is that if you sell alcohol and lotto tickets, you have loitering, and they would sell both of those things according to their current plan. ”
The next MPC meeting is on October 1st at Government Plaza.
