According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, around 11:31 a.m., police responded to a report of a person shot in the 5000 block of Southeastern Avenue. When they arrived, they could not find any shooting victims.
Later in the day, police were called to Community East Hospital on a report of a walk-in person shot.
Once police arrived, they discovered a man with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The officers who responded to Southeastern Avenue believe the shooting victim who walked into Community East Hospital may have been injured at their scene.
According to IMPD, an altercation near a gas station pump may have led to the shooting.
Police do not know if the victim and the suspect knew each other. One person has been detained but is serving as a cooperating witness, not a suspect.
The investigation remains ongoing and active, and police believe the shooting was an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the community.
