FREDERICK, Md. (DC News Now) — The historic Loys Station Covered Bridge was damaged after an oversized vehicle tried to drive through it.

Frederick County officials said the bridge was damaged because the over-height warning portal to the south entrance was destroyed Friday night, going into early Saturday morning, when an oversized vehicle tried to drive through it.

As a result, Old Frederick Road between New Cut Road to Route 77 has been closed to allow crews to make repairs to the bridge. A detour sign has been placed.

The repairs are expected to take three weeks.

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office is also investigating the incident.

Anyone who has information is asked to call the sheriff’s office’s tip line at 301-600-4131.
