Deputy, suspect injured in Stone County shooting

STONE COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – A Stone County deputy and a suspect were injured during an officer-involved shooting, authorities said.

The shooting occurred a a residence on Taylor Road in Wiggins.

Bailey Martin, spokesperson for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (MDPS), said deputies were attempting to serve a warrant when the suspect fired a weapon at them.

During an exchange of gunfire, Martin said one deputy was struck in the shoulder, and the suspect was struck in the leg. The suspect was arrested without further incident.

Both the deputy and the suspect were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No other deputies were injured.

Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) will investigate the officer-involved shooting and share their findings with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
