URBANA, Md. (DC News Now) — A Frederick-area nonprofit is working with community leaders to promote safe driving.

Wayne Dorsey put his college studies at West Virginia University to use for a community cause when he settled here in Frederick County, Maryland. He started the Safe Ride Foundation.

“It’s a mobile app we created about 10 years ago; a lot like Uber, but we drive your car home. My background is in computer engineering, so when I had the idea for the app, I realized it could impact the community, save lives,” said Dorsey.

Dwayne Myers has run a car care business in Urbana for 30 years and is a big supporter of Dorsey’s nonprofit.

“They provide a great service to our community,” said Myers. “Wayne makes sure everybody stays out of trouble and goes home safely.”

To showcase the Safe Ride Foundation, Myers’ business is hosting a vintage car show this weekend.

George Walker is bringing his Chevy Nova classic to display at the show. His love for these wheels?

“I just grew up around cars like these,” Walker explained. “My uncles had cars, my dad had cars, and I just [fell] in love with them at a young age.”

Dynamic Automotive mechanic David Dobson said the Safe Ride Foundation does a lot of good for the community.

“They come and get you, get your car and get you home safe,” says Dobson. “It’s just not worth the hassle, the liability, and [it] keeps everybody safe out there, me safe, your family safe.”

The vintage car show is on Sunday at noon at Dynamic Automotive on Urbana Church Road.
