COALVILLE, Utah (ABC4) — The Summit County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) closed off the southern end of Main Street in Coalville Thursday due to an “active barricade situation.”

According to Sgt. Skyler Talbot with SCSO, deputies were dispatched shortly before 5 p.m. to reports of a “family dispute” in the area of 300 South Main Street in Coalville. While on scene, deputies made attempts of “negotiating to try to reach a peaceful resolution,” with an adult, male suspect barricaded inside the home.

SWAT negotiators reported making repeated attempts to communicate with the suspect for several hours. Police say they were able to make brief contact with the suspect. However, he was uncooperative.

Officers deployed a drone inside the residence and observed the suspect with what appeared to be a “self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

Tactical teams soon entered and confirmed the man was deceased. No other individuals are reported as being injured during the altercation.

Police are currently investigating the incident but are not releasing any more information at this time.
