Rainy week sees county burn bans lifted

A week of much needed rain has seen burn bans across North Central Arkansas and the whole state lifted.

As of Friday morning the Arkansas Forestry Division is reporting only two counties in the state under burn bans which are Poinsett in the north east and Miller in the south west. County wide burn bans are set by county judges.

Until last Sunday the Twin Lakes area had gone over 3 weeks without significant rainfall with very dry conditions and much of the area placed under bans for burning. During the last week alone in Mountain 3.87 inches of rain had fallen at KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot News the official reporting station for the National Weather Service. On Wednesday 2.28 inches of rain fell which was more than the entire month of August which only recorded 1.72 inches.

Another dry week is forecasted for the area with no rain expected through at least next Thursday. Residents should still follow all local ordinances and use caution whenever any burning is attempted.
