After defeating Carbon Hill on the road last week, the Vinemont Eagles were back home for a non-region matchup against West End Friday night. Vinemont’s defense made things tough for the Patriots all night, keeping them out of the end zone for four quarters and helping lead the way to a 28-0 Eagles win.

Vinemont’s first possession ended with a turnover on downs, but the defense forced a punt, this time Josh Rhodes gave the Eagles a 6-0 lead on a 10-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter.

With 3:38 to play until halftime Gabriel Herrera raced 70 yards to extend the Eagles lead to 14-0. Vinemont was looking to add some more points before halftime after Roman Romero recovered a fumble to give the Eagles offense the ball back, unfortunately several penalties kept them from adding anymore points.

Vinemont’s defense forced a quick three and out to start the second half and the offense capitalized with a 4-yard touchdown run by Dalton Bryan that extended the lead to 21-0 midway through the third quarter. Vinemont stretched the lead to 28-0 on the first play of the fourth quarter when Bryan ran one into the end zone from 20 yards out.

Vinemont forced another punt to give the ball back to their offense to run clock and add points, deep in opponent territory the Eagles drive stalled but on the first play of the Patriots drive Chase Blair intercepted the ball putting the Eagles offense right back on the field. Vinemont kept the clock moving with their running game and eventually ran out the clock to secure a 28-0 shutout.
