Investigation continues in Alabama as two bodies were found after missing persons case

SUMPTER COUNTY, Ala. (WRBL) – The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency announced on Friday that two bodies were found after launching an investigation and search for a mother and her child on Wednesday.

According to ALEA, the body of an adult female was located in the Tombigbee River in Sumter County on Thursday, while a child’s body was also located in the Tombigbee River on Friday.

The Jackson, Mississippi Police Department has been working with ALEA during the investigation. Jackson police confirmed the identities of both deceased bodies found as 32-year-old Shardee McGill and her 3-year-old child.

However, the identities of both individuals are currently pending confirmation by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.

ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation launched the investigation on Wednesday regarding the missing individual and her child.

According to information provided by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, 32-year-old Shardee McGill and her child were last believed to be in Jackson, Miss., on Sunday, Sept. 21.

McGill’s vehicle, a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox, was found in the Epes Community within Sumter County, located in Alabama on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

Alabama and Jackson, Miss. officials worked together in an extensive search to locate McGill and her child.

Although two bodies were found, the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities do not have any further information available.
