Sanders issued a proclamation on Friday calling for the special election.
The proclamation says the special election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, and the primary will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. If needed, the primary runoff will take place on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

Senate District 26 covers portions of Franklin, Johnson, Sebastian and Logan counties, and the seat was held by Stubblefield until his death on Sept. 2.
Since the vacancy was announced, three candidates have announced intentions to run for the seat, all Republicans. Former Rep. Mark Berry of Ozark, Paris businessman Brad Simon and Paris native Ted Tritt have announced plans to run.
