Electrical issue with Tesla charger sparks Fairfax County house fire, leaves 6 displaced
The blaze broke out in the 6600 block of Mainsail Court in the Burke area on Friday, Sept. 26.
The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department said that when firefighters arrived, they found flames showing from the roof of a garage.
Officials noted the fire was discovered in the garage after a person smelled smoke. A total of six people were in the home, but were able to safely escape.
Fire investigators with the Office of the Fire Marshal determined that the fire started in a stud bay of an exterior wall in the garage. It was determined that the fire was caused by an “electrical event” involving a Tesla charger.
The fire caused about $128,223 in damage, and the family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
