According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers received a report of a person shot at an apartment in the 10100 block of John Jay Drive at 3:18 a.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, they located an adult female with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition, where she later died.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office identified the decedent as 19-year-old Lanya A. Anderson.

Later the same day, police came in contact with a man who was suspected of being involved in the shooting. Initially, he was detained. After consulting with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, he was arrested for murder.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office is assisting and will determine the exact manner and cause of death.
